Lionel Messi Backs Solana Memecoin for Ecological Awareness
International soccer star Lionel Messi has endorsed WaterCoin (WATER), a Solana-based memecoin focused on ecological issues, through his Instagram Stories. WaterCoin aims to raise awareness and provide solutions for water-related problems, with a roadmap outlining stages from initial token presale to becoming a charity-focused environmental currency. However, the roadmap lacks detailed strategies for achieving these goals, and the token’s price shows “pump and dump” patterns. Despite the risks associated with memecoins, their popularity persists, fueling debate within the crypto community about their value and impact. Memecoins can potentially serve as market sentiment indicators and foster active communities. Blockchain technology offers unique solutions for environmental protection through transparent and community-driven initiatives. Examples include Samsung’s use of blockchain to track tree planting and El Salvador’s sustainable Bitcoin mining using geothermal energy.

Bitcoin Dips as Germany Sells Over $900M in Seized Assets
Bitcoin experienced a significant price drop after the German government transferred over $900 million worth of Bitcoin from its holdings to various crypto exchanges and market makers. Data from Arkham Intelligence revealed that the German government moved 16,309 BTC to exchanges like Bitstamp, Kraken, and Coinbase, and market makers such as Flow Traders and Cumberland DRW. This caused Bitcoin’s price to fall to $55,000 before slightly recovering to above $56,000. The sale contributed to a 3% drop, part of a broader market trend influenced by a supply overhang during the low-volume summer season. The German government has now sold more than half of its seized Bitcoin assets, with 23,788 BTC still remaining from the original 50,000 BTC.

MetaMask Launches Toolkit to Simplify Web3 and DApp Development
Consensys has introduced the MetaMask Delegation Toolkit at EthCC, aiming to simplify Web3 development and improve user onboarding for decentralized applications (DApps). This toolkit is designed to enhance user experiences by eliminating repetitive actions and reducing direct interactions with Web3 infrastructure. Initially available on Ethereum, it supports multiple Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chains like Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Linea, Optimism, and Polygon. The toolkit allows for custom user policies, instant onboarding without extensions or seed phrase management, and better gas fee management. Consensys also acquired Wallet Guard to bolster security against digital fraud and scams, integrating its features into MetaMask.
